Self Depreciation is the New Black

2. GEEK tee at Topshop Petite £18 (it comes in regular too but it's a tad too long for my liking!)

Yesterday, standing in the Topshop changing rooms, I faced a dramatic dilemma. Which of these self depreciating t-shirts should I make my own?

A truly life-changing decision, I know. I am aware that I am both a geek and a loser, but which one is more apt?.. Perhaps I should have done a public vote. 

 

In the heat of the moment, though, I plumped for the ASHISH at Topshop number, a tee that I have been lusting over since Fashion Week, purely because I preferred the sleeves (the GEEK one isn't such a fan of my doughy upper arms.) 

You may find my fondness for these slogan tees somewhat odd, but arrogance is far overrated. I am willing, now more than ever, to embrace my LOSER status because...

A) I love cheese jokes. Not cheesy jokes...Jokes about cheese.

WHAT CHEESE DO YOU USE TO ENCOURAGE A BEAR?

B) I have a list of my top five dog breeds. Sexy.

C) I wear thermals, a lot, and I have even worn them to nightclubs. 

See, self depreciation is so in this season!

London Fashion Week is so totes around the corner. Just over 15 days until the fashion crowd descend on Somerset House and a number of other fashion-fabulous venues to view next season's most delightful collections!

This is the first of a few posts I shall be doing with outfits that I wish I could afford to splurge on for fashion week. I realise that they are all high street, but I am a poor student and can not afford to splash the cash on an entire new wardrobe just for fashion week. Though I certainly wish I could do so. 

My first look is a kooky take on a classically sexy look as often sported by the impossibly hot Carine Roitfeld. Adding this Ashish Topshop t-shirt and these vivid purple heels (in a shade very close to Atelier-To-Go's signature colour!) gives this simple look a modern edge and the bold accessories keep it fresh for the ever eccentric London Fashion Week!

I adore this Zara handbag as well, it is the perfect size to fit your camera, your iPad, your notebook and that all-important lippy for those impromptu street-style snaps!

Good Sport

Sometimes I see something in a shop and I just feel like it was made for me. Something so on the money that I just want to grab it from the rail and run to the till before anyone else swipes it, so gorgeous that it's as if the design team had sat down and gone "Shona Wallace needs a new party dress and she's loving white, strapless and lace this season. LET'S DO THIS!"

This jumper, however is not one of those things. This cool sweater by Ashish at Topshop could not be less suited to me, and I think that is why I love it.

I have never been a sporty sort. Save a year of obsessively pounding the treadmill, I generally don't move much. At all.

I enjoy the gym or the odd swim and I love a bit of yoga but sport? Do jog on.

The two or three times that I actually partook in PE at school were truly awful. I remember one particular moment during a game of rounders where I had to scramble after a tennis ball, on my knees, as the rest of the class watched and laughed. You cruel, cruel people- i'm scarred.

I just feel that this jumper is charmingly ironic for me to wear with customary skinny Abercrombie jeans, ballet pumps or ankle boots and a lovely handbag.

It's available for £50 and is the perfect way to get into the Olympic spirit without having to endure central London.

Double Denim Disaster or Delight?

It is one of the 1990's great fashion faux pas- the criminal offence that is double denim. Denim jacket? Acceptable. Jeans/ denim skirt or shorts? Perfectly normal. Together?! Bleugh. Are you Justin and Britney or Posh and Becks in chav-stage? Nope, just leave it then.

However, with the great 1990s return- seen in the sudden surge of sportswear on the high street and catwalk, and even the return of the high side ponytail (I know, but see my post about Ashish, where it actually looked quite cool!)- the double denim look has returned and it can be a mighty hit or a mighty miss!

While I do have a bit of girl crush on Ri-Ri, this look is a tad cheap for my liking. The black accessories do break it up a bit, but on the whole it is NOT the most flattering look on one of the sexiest women in fashion.

However, on the gorgeous fashion fairy that is Kate Bosworth, the look is adorable. A dip-dye denim shirt, layered with an oversized vest and dark skinnies (emphasis on DARK, too matchy-matchy can be problematic!) is a fantastic relaxed LA look that I am seriously envious of. Why can't I look like Kate?! Come on. It's not fair!

"Bombay meets Brixton"

As described by Vogue's Tilly Macalister-Smith as 'Bombay meets Brixton", this amazing show was one of the first that i've ever been to! And it was just such a treat. It was called "Bollywouldn't" and features beautiful sequins, juxtaposed with rainbow creepers and sporty detailing. It also really reminded me of the video for MIA's catchy "Bad Girls" which I have posted here!

Just totally amazing... or, as a fashion girl would say, #totesamaze or #chictothenextlev
