Byredo La Tulip Eau de Parfum, Liberty £88.00 |
I'll keep it short and sweet, but my two favourite 2015 spritzes come courtesy of Byredo (for a change) and Jo Malone London. The former is La Tulipe, a delightful scent which captures the gentle scent of spring's first blooms. Sparkling top notes include rhubarb and freesia, progressing to a fresh tulip-tainted heart before settling at a subtle base of blonde wood and crisp vetiver. The scent is clean and fresh, feminine but still unusual enough to warrant three "what scent are you wearing?" queries in Liberty's beauty hall. It is not overpowering, but it is an intriguing floral, evoking images of tulip-strewn strolls at the first blush of spring. I'm calling it the most elegant complement to this season's billowing bohemian blouses.

Jo Malone Blue Skies & Blossoms, £86.00 each |
Jo Malone London's offering comes from the glorious Blue Skies & Blossoms collection, debuting this month. The limited edition line-up comprises of the fruity Plum Blossom, the exotic Osmanthus Blossom and the delicate rose-tinted Sakura Cherry Blossom, my personal favourite. "Floral scents have always been our most popular among women," says Celine Roux, Jo Malone's fragrance director, "but today they're looking for a different kind of floral expression. Blossoms are fresh, natural, authentic and much easier to wear." Sakura Cherry Blossom is a sweet, girlish scent, as synonymous with spring as soft pink blossoms set against bright blue skies.
