Now here's a dilemma. Yves Saint Laurent or Christian Louboutin. Who do you side with in the latest fashion court battle?
It's been going for a while, all about that little flash of red on the sole of a shoe. But did Louboutin really invent the red sole that has long been his trademark?
YSL really don't think so. In a Vogue.com report, YSL have this to say about Louboutin's lawsuit filed last month:
"Red outsoles are a commonly used ornamental design feature in footwear, dating as far back as the red shoes worn by King Louis XIV in the 1600s and the ruby red shoes that carried Dorothy home in The Wizard of Oz... As an industry leader who has devoted his entire professional life to women's footwear, Mr Louboutin either knew or should have known about some or all of the dozens of footwear models that rendered his sworn statement false."
Ooh, take that Christian! As far as i'm concerned, red soles are always synonymous with Louboutin, but I really don't think he can claim them entirely as his own. YSL have a totally different aesthetic and clientele to Louboutin, and the style of the shoes probably wasn't as "identical" as Louboutin suggest.
I understand why Louboutin's people may see red (sorry, couldn't resist) over the issue, but they really shouldn't have a leg, or a shoe, to stand on.
