Another glorious day in San Francisco (!!)
It would be a bit mad to go to San Francisco and not make a
trip to the Golden Gate Bridge, so on day three in San Fran we decided to take a cab
over to the bridge.
It really is quite wonderful- well, as wonderful as a bridge
can be- and I only wish that the weather had been better. In order to work off
our (slightly gross) breakfast*, we walked across the windy bridge and took a
number of cheesy tourist-y pictures.
As we waited for the sun to break through the clouds, we
popped to The Legion of Honor gallery to view Impressionists on the Water. I have always been an
admirer of impressionism, particularly the work of Claude Monet and Van Gogh,
and this exhibition consisted of images depicting scenes by the water.
Highlights include Monet’s watercolours in sherbet pastels and Renoir’s
depictions of calm, glassy lakes.
We then ventured to the glorious Golden Gate Park. Golden
Gate Park offers a number of attractions, and our first stop was the charming
Japanese tea garden- the highlight of San Francisco for me.
We had a bit of lunch in the De Young café- a great spot for
a lighter lunch- and in the afternoon my parents went off to the botanical
gardens while my younger sister and I went to the California Academy of Sciences… It sounds dorky, but it was seriously enjoyable!
With an aquarium, an indoor rainforest and an earthquake
simulator, it really was lots of fun. Educational too, folks.
For this relaxed day of exploring the city, I wore my
favourite Zara floral pants (they are from last S/S, but my favourite pair this year are here and this Mary Katrantzou-esque style), a simple fine-knit
sweater and my Dune studded sandals. Unfortunately, due to the initial cold,
most of my day was spent swamped in this H&M hoody.
Finally, though, the sun put its hat on and I was able to
get right back into Summer mode for dinner at hidden gem Kabuto. Super sashimi
o’clock!
** To name and shame, we had breakfast at David's Delicatessen just down the road from us on Geary Street. I played
it safe with porridge, but what I received was a gelatinous oatcake. It must be
jelly, ‘cause oatmeal don’t shake like that.
