Saturday
Close to your heart.
We've all been there, that nightmarish panic of what would make the perfect 'thoughtful' present. It's all well and good to plump for the tried-and-tested perfume, the bottle of posh champers or the boring but always useful vouchers, but sometimes we want to go that little bit further and get something special and something unique.
I don't know about you, but i've tried the whole homemade present route for a change, but who really wants some homemade fudge wrapped up in sparkly cellophane with oodles of ribbon curls for a landmark birthday? I think my mum would have a cry if her 50th present was a home assembled floral arrangement...
Jewellery is always a winner though. Always, always. But it can go so wrong when in the wrong hands... I don't want another boring crystal pendant or a pair of simple studs, thank you very much! I find that quirky jewellery is one of the most special presents you can find, because it can be quite personal and will last a lifetime.
But where to begin? I love Dogeared, Monica Vinader and Zoe & Morgan for jewellery that packs a real punch and is sure to please whoever is lucky enough to receive said jewellery, but recently I have come across- thanks to Grazia- another fantastic jewellery brand.
Based in London, 'Wear That There' is a charming little company that specialises in made-to-order pendants embossed with special messages or, even nicer, song lyrics. You can opt for a simple pendant for £68 (gold plated £148), a double for £98 (gold plated £208) or a pretty bracelet at £88. You can also add a heart charm to your bespoke necklace for £4. They are absolutely gorgeous and any girl would be chuffed to bits with one!
But what lyrics would you choose? For some inspiration, check out the gallery on the website, or you may- like me, being the loser I am- already have a wide variety of lyrics that you love. Mine are mostly Bowie ("Oh no love, you're not alone"), Pulp ("If fashion is your trade, then when you're naked I guess you must be unemployed"... though I don't know if that's ideal for a necklace) and Mystery Jets (any of Flakes... even though it's somewhat depressing!). Anyway, i'll leave that part up to you. Get your necklace here!
