Balletic Elegance

After the Rodarte costumes that arguably stole the show in the haunting 'Black Swan', the fashion industry has very much held on to this love of all things ballet.

Many designers are often inspired by ballet costumes. The costumes that adorn the lithe bodies of ballerinas are often meticulous works of art, with every detail carefully considered and they are some of the most beautiful pieces aside from couture.

You will probably be familiar with The Summer Party, hosted by the English National Ballet at the breathtaking Orangery in Kensington. All celebrities, champagne and beautiful dance- if you have a spare £150, tickets are available here.

Even more excitingly, though, is the silent auction that is currently underway (terms and conditions apply) featuring beautiful tutus designed by some of the top designers of the moment and they are just a feast for the eyes. Here are some of the most beautiful, and read the brochure here for more information on the inspiration behind these stunning pieces.

Agent Provocateur
Inspired by the ballerinas of the 1940s the tutu is hand dyed with intricate appliqué and a scattering of Swarovski crystlals

Erdem
Inspired by the Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballets Russes exhibition at the V&A, Erdem's piece is s undoubtedly my favourite. Swiss lace appliqué and beautiful detail make this piece a work of art.

Giles Deacon
Inspired by the black swan in Swan Lake, Giles wanted to juxtapose the sinister charm of the character with a "wonderfully light" aesthetic. All Swarovski crystal and ostrich feathers, the costume is stunning.

Moschino
Designed with English kings and queens in mind, this tutu is scattered with mother of pearl buttons embossed with Moschino symbols of 'M' hearts and the peace sign.
Roksanda Ilincic
Structural but light and graceful, this pieces is artfully draped with tulle and organza to create a statement and a unique movement.
