For a long time, fashion has been dominated by the blonde. The beachy blonde, the Hollywood blonde, the edgy blonde. Blonde has always been on trend- and as a blonde, i've never been complaining.
But fashion is ever-changing and now there is an unlikely hair craze emerging... Red.
Living in Scotland, where ginger's are everywhere swigging irn bru and wearing kilts, it is easy to forget that our stereotypical hair colour is actually very beautiful. It's perfect when glossy and healthy in Winter, and can look amazing tousled in Summer heat- it works with cool skintones or with a golden glow. But, just leave the St. Tropez at home on this one, okay? It's never nice to match your face to your hair.
There are a few ladies in the public eye who are embracing their red locks. An obvious example is Nicola Roberts who, after spending years disguising her natural beauty with fake tan and brown extensions, decided to shun this Barbie doll look and become a new idol for redhead's everywhere. Her 'Dainty Doll' make up range is a huge success, and since returning to her natural look she has become something of a style icon.
And then there are the others: Julianne Moore- who I would give anything to look like, Evan Rachel Wood, Florence Welch, Karen Elson and Glee actress Jayma Mays- who looked phenomenal at the recent SAG awards in peach Jenny Packham. They are all a new wave of fire haired beauties who are setting the trend. And to top it all off? The Mulberry show was full of beautiful models with perfectly wavy copper wigs. It looked totally fantastic- working with the spring colour palette of pastels, nudes and brights (cobalt blue with auburn is stunning!)
So the truth of the matter is, i'm so tempted by this new hair trend. It works well with every look for Summer, and is perfect for nailing the 1970s look: just add some frizz and go Coddington!
Maybe I won't get rid of the trusty blonde JUST yet, but it's definitely a thought if you are brave enough to hit the hair dye!
