Academy Awards 2011

Of all the award ceremonies, there is one that is most exciting and most glamourous- The Oscars. And with the Oscars comes all that hype of who will where what, as this is one of the most high profile events of the movie industry.

This years show was no exception, hosted by the gorgeous James Franco and the stunning Anne Hathaway who flitted her way through EIGHT spectacular looks, from vintage ruby Valentino to ivory Givenchy Couture and a Lanvin tux. The show was appealing to a younger audience with these high profile stars- and all focus was on the winners. The King's Speech was a big winner (my whole family were seriously backing Colin Firth!) and Natalie Portman (a slight girl crush of mine) picked up the honour of Best Actress. It seemed a great night- all haute couture, glamour and gold statues.

But on to the dresses! Ooh what fun it is dissecting the fashion efforts of Hollywood's elite. This year was a mixed bag (wasn't keen on Nicole Kidman's look, or some of the more simple gowns), but there were some truly spectacular dresses. Ricardo Tisci's futuristic elegance at Givenchy Haute Couture made sure that Cate Blanchett stood out from the masses in a dress that lay just on the right side of high-fashion while staying appropriate for the occasion- she looked phenomenal in the ivory dress with intricate embellishment of acid yellow and crystal. Natalie Portman's beautiful Rodarte gown was a star in itself, and Mila Kunis blew critics away with her lavender Elie Saab gown- definitely a style-icon to watch.

Here are my pick of the dresses...

p.s.

Does Gwyneth Paltrow seriously depress anyone else? Two children and still totally perfect! Not fair.
